Being Still - The Key to Overcoming Overwhelm

I don't know about you, but sometimes I become so pre-occupied with the things God has called me to do that spending time with Him gets lost in the shuffle. My life begins to feel like the ultimate juggling act.

Outside of working full time I blog, lead a small group, and am preparing to start an online business. I know that God has called me to do these things, but I cant help but feel mentally overwhelmed. I doubt myself and abilities, and begin to feel completely incapable.

I had to take a step back and re-evaluate everything i was doing. I'm running the race marked out for me with God's guidance. So why do I feel so lost?

We have to ask ourselves if in the pursuit of following our calling are we still following God? Or have we grabbed the baton from his hand and ran so far ahead that we’re running the race alone and out of breath?

We are not called to do things we could easily accomplish in our own strength.  We are called to do things that are beyond our ability so that God will be glorified as his power works through us.

In order to handle the weight of our responsibilities we have to surrender control. Trusting God with our life requires trusting him with every step of the journey.

How do we do this? By prioritizing time to be still in God’s presence among the busy, overwhelming, and confusing.

When we’re constantly moving our focus is always shifting. Separating ourselves from the noise allows us to better hear His voice and realize what God is doing around us.

Being still positions us to be refreshed and filled up with God’s strength. As His strength becomes our own we’ll find that we can handle more than we thought.

The Lord will give strength to His people; The Lord will bless His people with peace. - Psalm 29:11

I'll be the first to admit that it’s a fight to find time to be still (one I still struggle with). Right now my life is all about getting up early, going to bed late, and not hanging with my friends as much as I would like. And that's okay. Every season of life is different and requires different sacrifices. But all seasons of life have one thing in common - we need to stay rooted in Jesus.

Without God our pursuits are pointless, but with God our pursuits have purpose and we gain his peace that transcends all understanding.

Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and he will establish your plans. The Lord works out everything to its proper end - Proverbs 16:3-4

All My Love,
