How to Enjoy the Life You Have Now

How to Enjoy the Life You Have Now

Have you ever wondered when your life will become everything you wanted? Life is filled with good seasons and tough seasons, and the key is to make the most of whatever season you’re in. Life will never be perfect, but that doesn’t mean it can’t be good.

Is your faith in your future plans or in Jesus? Hope for the things you want, but don’t hinge your faith to them If they don’t happen what will happen to your faith?

It’s easy to look ahead and think that the next major life event will complete you and finally, make you happy. I’m not saying you shouldn’t want to move forward in life, because you should. Move out our of your parents’ house, finish your degree and start your career, marry that man or woman God sent you, have children, and pursue that promotion. All those things are wonderful, but let me tell you a not-so-secret secret, they still won’t be enough.

That thing that you’re praying for will satisfy you for a while, but not forever. Soon it’ll become old, boring, or more of a burden than a blessing. And once again you’ll be looking for joy in the next thing. It’s a vicious cycle, searching for eternal fulfillment in earthly achievements.

But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own. - Matthew 6:33-34

If you want to be fulfilled, pursue Jesus Christ. Lay down your plans and follow His will. God created you and knows everything single thing about you. Your talents, personality, and interests aren’t an accident. He created you for a specific purpose and in Him, you’ll discover who and what you were created to be. You won’t need to wait until some life-changing event happens to be fulfilled, you’ll already feel it. Then you’ll be able to realize that your best days are ahead of you, but they are also in front of you. Your present situation may not be perfect, but if you’re in God’s will it has a purpose. It just doesn’t seem that way when you idolize the future.

Do not boast about tomorrow, for you do not know what a day may bring. - Proverbs 27:1

So teach us to number our days that we may get a heart of wisdom - Psalm 90:12

We can all look back at our lives and see the things that we took for granted; things we didn’t fully appreciate when we had them. That pattern doesn’t have to come into your future. Things may not be perfect right now, but there is something good you can focus on. Those things you're praying for are good, but every blessing comes with challenges. Don’t be so quick to wish your days away thinking better, problem-free ones are always ahead.

Enjoy what you have rather than desiring what you don’t have. Just dreaming about nice things is meaningless—like chasing the wind. - Ecclesiastes 6:9

I challenge you to remember the days when you prayed for the things you have now, and take time to find the goodness in your current season. You may in a difficult season but that doesn’t mean God isn’t with you. He with you in every valley and trial. I remember a time when I was unemployed and so fixated on finding a job even though God was telling me to rest. I wish I would have trusted God more and rested more during that time. It was difficult but God did a great work in me and that was the good that I learned to focus on.

In the end, none of us know what the future holds. Don’t make an idol of the things your longing for, you don’t even know what tomorrow will bring. Instead, make the most of what God has given you and honor Him by giving it you all.
