Why You Don’t Have to be Qualified to be Used Greatly

Have you ever felt unsure or hesitant about something God told you to do? Have you ever found yourself thinking, “Why would He choose me for this role” or “How will I be able to complete this task?”

I’m there right now. I’m overwhelmed, anxious, and a bit terrified.

Over the last three years God has called me out of my comfort zone more than I like.  I’m naturally shy, not a lover of the spotlight, yet God has placed me in leadership roles at work and at church making it impossible for me to hide behind my insecurities.

In the bible Moses had a similar experience. Let’s look at an excerpt from the story of Moses and the burning bush:

So now, go. I am sending you to Pharaoh to bring my people the Israelites out of Egypt.”  But Moses said to God, “Who am I that I should go to Pharaoh and bring the Israelites out of Egypt?” And God said, “I will be with you. And this will be the sign to you that it is I who have sent you: When you have brought the people out of Egypt, you will worship God on this mountain.” – Exodus 3:10-12

When God commanded Moses to go to Pharaoh, Moses first question was who am I? He was concerned about his capability and nothing else.

God’s response is amazing. He doesn’t answer Moses’ question they we expect Him to. Does He tell Moses, “You are strong, or courageous, or gifted and that’s why he can lead the Israelites.“? Nope. Does He condemn Moses for asking a self-centered question? Not at all. Instead, God responds to Moses by stating that He will be with Him, simple as that.

This is always the answer when we question our ability to accomplish God’s will for our lives. Regardless of our insecurities we have to remember that our identity is found in Him. In our own eyes we are unworthy and unable, but our weaknesses are a platform for His greatness to reign.

Moses had a speech impediment, but God used him greatly.

A part from Jesus many things are impossible, but with Him all things are possible (Matthew 19:26).

So if you’re feeling like I was feeling take heart. What you’re facing may be big, but our God is bigger (Isaiah 40:28). He is in control and guiding your every step.

Don’t focus on what you’re called to do more than who called you to do it. You aren’t qualified and you won’t be perfect, but you are equipped because He who is perfect is with you.

And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose. For those God foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brothers and sisters. And those he predestined, he also called; those he called, he also justified; those he justified, he also glorified.   What, then, shall we say in response to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us? – Romans 8:28-31
